Giving New Life to a Cupboard Door

Charming Coat Hanger Distressed Farmhouse Faux Finish Oak Rustic Storage Vintage Wall Art

Makeover a kitchen cupboard door? Yup! This has been such a great project maybe my favorite so far!

First, let's talk about prep work... the part of the job that takes longer than the actual painting of said object. Just like life. The most important part, isn't the fun part. Oh well, it makes the end result the best it can be.

It is especially important with any object that comes out of a Kitchen, to clean it well. And I mean, really well! I used a good quality dish soap. You could also use a TSP type of product, just remember to rinse REALLY well! I used as warm water as I could stand. I also used a razor blade to get into the corners. You would be surprised how much gunk gets into every nook and cranny. After washing, I sanded. Then I washed again. I was now sure it was clean. After each washing I left the door in the sun for a few hours to make sure it was thoroughly dry. Don't try to sand wet wood.

Okay, so the door is clean and ready to be sanded.

Freshly sanded!

Ok, now the fun part! Pick your colour, finish and applicator. I used a small paint brush and mixed my own colour. I wanted a matte, muted aqua. Ha Ha say that 5 times fast!

Now it's time to distress and add some character and finally the hooks!

A note about the hooks: I have collected these black coat hooks over a period of a few years. They must have been a popular design as each one was found at a different time and place. Estate sale, yard sale and an antique store. Sometimes you have to be patient and keep you eye out!

Now here's the finished product!

Here's a close up of the distressing detailing.

Needless to say, I am in very pleased with this makeover and am in love with this piece! What do you think?

Thanks for following along friends! See you next week!
