So many times I have wanted to find a vintage item to fulfill a need but couldn't find what I was looking for. Or how about when you have an antique that will work but you don't want to devalue or damage it... yup. Been there. That's where this project comes in.
Let's take something new and make it look old!
Let's take this dollar store galvanized tin and make it into something a little more snazzy.
The beauty part of it is, you can customize it to your decor and tastes. So you get to make it look old but match your interior!
I have chose to paint it in the smokey blue. Smokey is fancy talk for a colour that has lots of black in it! I also decided to use a flat finishing paint so it would add the the vintage vibe.
I did experiment with dry brushing and using 2 tones of paint however the effect didn't quite turn out the way I wanted it to. I re-painted the bucket solid.
Now onto the accent. I was looking for a generic wording to put on one side. I wanted it to look old and aged... so I came up with this stencil;
I used my Cricut and cut the design in to clear plastic film to that I could re-use it. If I had cut it into stencil or removable vinyl, it would have been a one time use item.
I used flat black paint and applied the design. Once dry, I gave it a light sanding. I really wanted the letters to look faded.
So here's the finished product, what do you think??
